Open House at New Facility on February 23

The Barber National Institute has opened a new facility in Millcreek to better serve the needs of adults in western Erie County as well as potential community employers.

An open house will be held at the new facility located at 2675 West 12th Street (near 12th and Lowell Avenue) on Tuesday, February 23 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

The 2,760 square foot office space provides gathering areas for the new Club Erie West and the Supported Employment program.

Club Erie is a program that helps adults access resources in their community to build and maintain skills for great independence. The Barber National Institute will continue to offer this program from offices on East 12th Street, and the new facility will better meet the needs of adults residing in Millcreek, Girard and other western areas of the county.

All Club Erie activities take place in the community, including dance and exercise classes, bowling, visits to museums and the library, and volunteering at area organizations. A short video about Club Erie is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJrkssXKc0I

The Supported Employment Program will now have more professional office space and increased parking for adults, families and referral sources who are participating in the community employment search. The Barber National Institute Supported Employment program assists adults with intellectual and physical disabilities or behavioral health challenges in the complete continuum of job search activities, from developing resumes, preparing for and going on interviews to training newly hired adults in their new job responsibilities.

In 2015, the Supported Employment Program assisted 38 adults in getting hired for their jobs in the community.
