Former BNI Swimmer Makes National Special Olympics

Janine Calabrese, 27, who first learned to swim in the Barber National Institute pool, qualified for the National Special Olympics as part of the USA Aquatics Team.

"I'm really excited about this, I'm speechless!" Janine said according to WICU/WSEE. Though her family heard two days ago, Special Olympics aquatics coach Mark Euliano along with friends and family surprised her with the news last Thursday evening before swim practice.

"Very proud, very excited. It's just amazing. You always want your kids to have an adventure or great experience, and she's got one coming. And it's all through her efforts," said Marcia Calabrese, Janine's mom.

The games run in Los Angeles from July 25th to August 2nd.
