Drum roll, please! Watch Jude Shingle, one of the judges for the Jay & Mona Kang Virtual Art Show & Sale, announce the winners on Thursday, April 15 during the 5:30 p.m. newscast on WICU TV. March is Women’s History Month, a commemoration passed by Congress in 1987 to recognize the contributions made by women throughout history and in contemporary society. In a series created by Erie News Now, Dr. Gertrude A. Barber, founder of the Barber National Institute, was celebrated for her legacy of services to persons with disabilities and their families. In recognition of the more than 1,475 employees carrying out the mission of the Barber National Institute, including all of those staff in the Elizabeth Lee Black School, in 95 group homes, day programs across Pennsylvania, Behavioral Health Services, Early Intervention, and all departments that support these essential services. Congratulations to Ashleigh Dzurik, a teacher in the Elizabeth Lee Black School, who received the “Golden Apple Award” sponsored by Edinboro University and WJET/Fox 66. Ashleigh was nominated for this honor by Alex Pelc and his mother, Tricia Pelc. Because of Ashleigh's dedication and support, Alex achieved so much progress that he was able to transition to his home school district.2021 Art Show Award Winners
