Erie, PA (March 20, 2025) - World Down Syndrome Day is observed annually on March 21 to raise awareness about Down syndrome, promote inclusion, and advocate for the rights of individuals with the condition. The day, March 21, symbolizes the uniqueness of Down syndrome, as it represents the three copies of chromosome 21 that people with Down syndrome have instead of the usual two. In honor of Read Across America Week, celebrity readers from across the community visited the Elizabeth Lee Black School to read to students.
