The Pennsylvania Dept. of Public Welfare has formally approved Connections Camp for summer 2013 for children and young adolescents diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, Pervasive Development Disorder or High-Functioning Autism. Camp will be held Wednesday, June 19-Tuesday, August 13 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Villa Maria Elementary.

Connections Camp was one of the first Summer Therapeutic Activities Program in the state when it first opened in 2000. The program is developed for youngsters ages 5-14 and focuses on helping them develop interpersonal skills, manage their emotions and make good decisions. The use of social coaching encourages children and teens to work through difficult social situations and teaches them how to react positively to these challenges.

Families interested in learning more about Camp are invited to an informational open house on Saturday, March 16 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Barber National Institute gym (enter the north lot off of East Bay Drive.) Look for activities for the kids, refreshments, and an opportunity to ask questions. Individual information sessions can be scheduled upon request.

Camp is filled on a first come - first served basis; for more information, call the Barber National Institute at (814) 878-5957 or email
