Code of Conduct and Ethics
The Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National Institute
has a strong commitment to ethics and integrity
in all that we do. Our Code of Conduct and
Ethics reflects the moral and ethical direction
for the provision of services and supports to
those persons and their families we serve as well
as the daily activities of all employees at
the Institute. This Code requires our employees
to act in accordance with our corporate values and
to perform all business operations in an honest
and ethical manner. In addition, any person
working on behalf of the Institute is required
to use this Code as a guideline for all his
or her actions and statements while representing
the Institute.
Compliance with Laws, Regulations,
Policies, and Procedures
All representatives of the Institute
(when applicable)shall:
- A. General
Understand and abide by laws, regulations,
policies, procedures and guidelines
that are applicable to them in the
performance of their job responsibilities.

B. Financial Controls
- Ensure that established
financial controls are adhered to
within the Institute and that they
conform to legal, professional,
and ethical standards.
- Ensure that claims submitted for
payment or reimbursement for
services will only be for
such care that is provided by
properly qualified persons,
that such claims are consistent
with the actual services rendered
by personnel, and that such care
is billed and documented accurately.

C. Appropriate Needs-Based Services
Provide reasonable, necessary and
appropriate care based
upon identified consumer/student needs.
Commitment to Enhancing Relationships
All representatives of the Institute
(when applicable) shall:

A. Confidentiality
Respect professional confidences and work to secure the
existence of procedures that will safeguard the
confidentiality and privacy of consumers/students,
their families, and others served, as well as
employees, in accordance with HIPAA and the
Institute's confidentiality policy and
procedures.

B. Respect for All
Show respect for all people regardless
of age, national origin, gender, color,
religion, disability and such other
characteristics as may be protected by
federal, state and local law.

C. Diversity
Respect the diversity of consumers, students,
families, and employees, and respect their
customs and practices that are consistent
with the organization's policies,
procedures, and philosophy/mission.

D. Intellectual Property
- Understand and agree that any/all
discoveries, ideas, concepts, and written
material which are created by an Institute
employee using company time, resources
and materials are the property of the Dr.
Gertrude A. Barber National
Institute.
- Safeguard the intellectual property
rights of others, including, but not
limited to the use or copy of a trademark,
copyrighted material, specialized
therapeutic techniques, or patented
materials of another.

E. Obligations to Consumers/Students
- Provide prospective consumers, students,
families and others with adequate, complete
and accurate information that advises them
of their rights, opportunities,
and responsibilities related to
services available,
enabling them to make informed decisions
regarding services.
- Fully support consumers, students,
parents, family members or other payers
who have questions about their bill
for services rendered as well as provide
an opportunity to discuss charges and
resolve disputes over fees and services
in a fair and considerate manner.

F. Choice
Promote processes that encourage the
autonomy, self-determination, respect,
and choice of consumers/students,
families or others served.

G. Zero Tolerance for Abuse
Demonstrate zero tolerance for any abuse that
compromises consumers/students or others served
and to report alleged abuse in a timely and
appropriate manner in accordance with federal,
state and local laws and Institute policy.

H. Safeguard Rights
Offer a process to facilitate the resolution of
conflicts that may arise when values/opinions of
consumers, their families, or any person(s)
acting on behalf of the consumer, differ from
those of employees and consultative staff or
when other issues arise.
Commitment to Encouraging a Positive
Workplace Environment
All representatives of the
Institute (when applicable) shall:

A. Positive and Safe Work Environment
- Ensure a positive and safe work
environment that is free
from harassment, sexual and
otherwise; coercion of any kind,
especially to perform illegal
or unethical acts; and discrimination
on the basis of age, national origin,
gender, color, religion, disability, and
such other characteristics as may be
protected by federal, state and local law.
- Endeavor to create and contribute
to a work environment that embraces and
promotes ethical conduct.

B. Misconduct and Violations Reporting
Be obligated to report any/all violations of
this Code of Conduct and Ethics and other
activity that is believed to be in violation of
Institute policy and/or federal, state, or
local laws. If a representative sees
or experiences potential misconduct,
including abuse in any fashion, or any
inappropriate business practices, he/she is
required to report the incident to
the appropriate person(s) in a timely
manner per established procedures.

C. Protection from Retaliation
An individual can report all instances of suspected
wrongdoing without fear of retaliation.
The Dr. Gertrude A. Barber National
Institute will not tolerate any retaliation
or threats of retaliation against anyone
that reports in good faith a violation or
suspected violation of the law,
any organization policy, or the
Code of Conduct and Ethics.
Commitment to Supporting the Barber
Culture and Corporate Values
All representatives of the Institute
(when applicable) shall:

A. General
Uphold the mission, vision, corporate values
and the
Code of Conduct and Ethics
established for the Dr. Gertrude
A. Barber National Institute.
- B. Conflict of Interest
- Ensure that the welfare of the
consumer/student is paramount at all times.
- Refrain from giving or
accepting anything of value
from anyone when doing so might
compromise, or appear to
compromise, the objectivity
of business decisions or professionalism.
- Ensure that they do not take
advantage of the Institute for
personal gain by using opportunities
that are presented at or concerning
the Barber National Institute through
the use of the Barber National
Institute name and/or competition
with the Institute.

C. Striving for Quality
Support the systems and processes that
evaluate and enhance
the quality of care or services rendered.

D. Honest Communication
Be truthful in all forms of professional
and organizational communication;
avoid disseminating information that
is false, misleading, or deceptive.

E. Sound Business Practices
Conduct personal and professional
activities with honesty, integrity,
respect, fairness, and good faith in a
manner that will reflect well
upon the profession and Institute.
