Rich Matlak

"Baseball Person of the Year" Award

Rich Matlak

As a well-known fixture in the local baseball scene for decades, Rich has been referred to as "Mr. Ballgame." Rich played baseball for both Cathedral Prep and then Gannon University. He taught social studies and coached baseball for Tech Memorial High School/Central High School for many years and led those teams to more than 400 wins. He also served as pitcher for the Glenwood League and then managed the league for 22 years.

Joe Cook

Joe Cook literally wrote the book on baseball. He is the author of "The Young Coach's Guide to Winning Baseball." Joe founded the Mercyhurst College baseball program in 1973. He also worked as coach for the Colt League, American Legion and was involved with the Glenwood League.


Joe passed away in January, 2011, at the age of 76.
