Barber National Institute offers a wide range of behavioral health services for children with behavioral health needs. Programs are designed to meet the unique strengths and challenges for each individual and family, and our staff is committed to helping children and teens reach their fullest potential. These services include our new Blended Case Management, Intensive Behavioral Health Services (IBHS), Acute Partial Hospitalization, Family Based Mental Health and Childhood Trauma.
The Elizabeth Lee Black School (ELBS), an approved private school, provides preschool and school-aged children with high-quality, educational programs to meet their individual needs from pre-K to 12th grade. Our faculty implements state-of-the-art services to meet and exceed the highest standard of education for our children. Our Bright Beginning Early Intervention program provides a variety of supportive services and therapies for children from birth to age three to help them learn and grow during this important time in their development. Part of our Elizabeth Lee Black School includes early childhood programs; Happy Hearts Inclusive Preschool & Child Care, Specialized Early Intervention PreSchool, and Pre-K Counts. Other ELBS programs include Autism Support, Mental Health Partial, and Life Skills Mulitple Disabilities Program.
Camp Shamrock is a summer day camp for children ages 5 to 21 years with intellectual disabilities, autism or multiple handicaps held at the main campus of Barbe National Institute. Connections Camp is another summer day camp offered by Barber National Institute, designed to build social skills and connections for children ages 5 to 18 with high functioning autism, at the Penn State Behrend Campus. During the school year, we also offer Time for Me, a recreational Saturday program for children with autism and intellectual disabilities, and SibSessions, a monthly Saturday program for siblings from ages 5 up to their 16th birthday who have a brother or sister with a developmental disability. Barber National Institute's Parent Autism Support Group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7 p.m. at the Barber National Institute. Sessions are free and open to the public.
