The Barber National Institute was established in 1952 in Erie, Pennsylvania by our founder, educator Dr. Gertrude A. Barber. We have grown into a multi-faceted organization that provides educational, vocational, residential, and behavioral health services to more than 3,600 children and adults annually across Pennsylvania. The Southwestern Regional Program was opened in 1999 to serve adults and their families in the suburban Pittsburgh area. The Barber National Institute currently operates six residential group homes in the Pittsburgh area and offers adult day services.
