The Barber National Institute is now providing behavioral health rehabilitation services (BHRS) in Allegheny County. The program provides intensive support to children with autism spectrum disorders and other challenging behaviors in the home, school and community environment.

"We are pleased to be invited to offer this service to our neighbors in Western Pennsylvania," said John Barber, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Barber National Institute. “The Barber National Institute has a long history of providing meaningful and effective behavior al health services, and we are happy take this opportunity to further serve children and families.”
A proposal was submitted in March in partnership with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services and Community Care Behavioral Health.
Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS) is a short-term, intensive program for children up to age 21. The program, previously called “wrap around,” is designed to support the child with appropriate behavioral care and services in any environment, including the home, school or community.
The Barber National Institute currently provides BHRS services to children and adolescents in Erie, Crawford, Warren and Forest counties. Approximately 75% of the more than 300 children served annually have a diagnosis of autism.
A core team of a behavior specialist consultant, mobile therapist and therapeutic support staff from Erie has joined staff recruited from the Pittsburgh area.
The Barber National Institute has had locations in Southwest Pennsylvania for more than 10 years, providing residential and adult day services in the suburban Pittsburgh area.
